Google Pixel 6a could launch with Tensor chipset, older camera setup
The Google Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro just arrived last month, but there’s already quite a bit of curiosity for the company’s next smartphone. We recently shared exclusive Google Pixel 6a renders that showed off the complete design of the phone, including a punch-hole display and rear camera visor. Now, according to a new report (via 9to5google), the upcoming Pixel 6a could feature a Tensor GS101 chipset, just like its elder siblings and camera setup will be similar to the Google Pixel 5.
Google Pixel 6a specifications (expected)
Further according to the report, the codebase on the Google Camera app of the upcoming device suggests that the Pixel 6a will have a 12.2MP Sony IMX363 sensor for the primary camera, which was there on the Pixel 5 as well. There’s also a 12MP IMX386 sensor, likely for ultra-wide camera capabilities, and an 8MP IMX355 sensor as well for the front camera.
The device which is internally codenamed “Bluejay”, could be powered by the same Google Tensor GS101 chipset as found in the already launched Google Pixel 6 duo. It’s also expected that Google intends to offer the same Tensor-enabled features on the Google Pixel 6a, that are there on the Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro including updated Voice Typing and HDRnet video capabilities. If it’s true, then this would make the Pixel 6a the first Google Pixel A-series smartphone to get a similar chipset, like the higher-priced series of smartphones, which would be exciting if true. If the Pixel 6a doesn’t end up using a Tensor chip at all, Google could come with another mid-range Qualcomm Snapdragon chipset, as the company has done with previous Pixel A-series of smartphones.
The earlier leaked renders of the smartphone revealed that the Pixel 6a will feature a 6.2-inch flat OLED display with a single centered punch-hole camera and an in-display fingerprint scanner on top of it. There are dual rear cameras on the back with a single LED flash, housed in a visor-like module similar to the one on the Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro. The renders further reveal that the Google Pixel 6a will have a glass back and dual-tone colour finish. On the right side of the frame, we can see the volume rocker and the power buttons, with the left frame housing the SIM card slot.
The bottom side features a USB Type-C port along with two grilles for the speaker and microphone. There are antenna cutouts on all four sides meaning the smartphone should have a metal frame all along. We will have more details around the upcoming smartphone, as and when it launches globally, so stay tuned for that.
