Smartphones launched in India in August 2021: Samsung Galaxy Z Flip3, Galaxy M32 5G, Motorola Edge 20, and more

August 2021 may have come to an end, but the smartphones that got launched in India during the month are going to stay with us for the next 4-5 months (possibly, a year in some cases). The highlight of the month had to be the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip3 and Galaxy Fold3 foldable phones. Launched at Samsung Galaxy Unpacked 2021 event, they are the most advanced foldable smartphones from the company yet. In addition to these, Samsung also brought the affordable Galaxy M32 5G, Motorola rolled out its new Edge-series phones in the country, while Realme and Tecno unveiled their affordable C21Y and Pova 2 smartphones, respectively. Samsung Galaxy Z Fold3 and Galaxy Z Flip3

Arguably, the best foldable smartphones you can buy in India right now. Both Samsung Galaxy Z Fold3 and Z Flip3 are powered by the flagship Snapdragon 888 SoC. This is paired with 120Hz refresh rate screens, HDR10+ support, Corning Gorilla Glass Victus, and a 25W fast charging solution. The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold3 has a 6.2-inch HD+ Dynamic AMOLED 2X cover display, a 7.6-inch WXGA+ Dynamic AMOLED 2X Infinity Flex foldable display, up to 12GB RAM + 512GB storage option, 12MP triple cameras at the back, 10MP snapper on the front cover display, and a 4MP under-display camera on the main screen. Samsung Galaxy M32 5G

Samsung Galaxy M32 is the first M-series smartphone to come with 5G network connectivity, The handset rocks MediaTek Dimensity 720 SoC paired with 6GB RAM + 128GB storage under the hood. It sports a 6.5-inch HD+ display that bears a waterdrop notch atop for a 13MP selfie camera. Around the back, the Samsung Galaxy M32 5G houses a quad-camera system on the back that includes a 48MP (f/1.8 aperture) primary camera, an 8MP (f/2.2) ultra-wide-angle lens, a 5MP (f/2.4) depth camera, and a 2MP (f/2.4) macro lens. The phone is driven by a 5,000mAh battery and runs Android 11-based OneUI 3.1 out of the box to take care of the software side of things. It has a side-mounted fingerprint sensor for security.

Realme C21Y

Realme C21Y

The Realme C21Y is a new budget offering from the Chinese phone maker Realme. Key Realme C21Y specifications include a 6.5-inch display, UNISOC T610 SoC, 13MP primary camera, a 5000mAh battery with 10W charging, and Android 11 OS out of the box. It is equipped with up to 4GB RAM and 64GB storage configuration. There is a 5MP camera on the front for selfies and video calling and a rear-mounted fingerprint scanner for security. The Realme C21Y comes with a sticker price of Rs 8,999 in India.

Samsung Galaxy A03s is the latest entry-level A-series phone from Samsung. It has been priced in India at Rs 11,499 for the 3GB + 32GB model and Rs 12,499 for the 4GB + 64GB version. For the asking price, the Samsung Galaxy A03s offers a 6.5-inch HD+ display, 13MP triple camera setup at the back, 5MP selfie camera, and a 5,000mAh battery. Under the hood, the Samsung Galaxy A03s rocks MediaTek Helio P35 SoC paired with IMG PowerVR GE8320 GPU.

Motorola Edge 20 series

Motorola introduced its new Edge-series phones in India in August. The series comprises Motorola Edge 20 and Edge 20 Fusion smartphones. Both phones come with a 6.67-inch OLED display, 108MP triple rear cameras, Android 11 OS, and a side-mounted fingerprint sensor for security. The Motorola Edge 20 has Snapdragon 778 SoC coupled with Adreno 642L GPU, 8GB RAM and 128GB internal storage ticking at its core. It’s equipped with an impressive 144Hz refresh rate screen, 4,000mAh battery, and 33W fast charging support. The Motorola Edge 20 Fusion rocks MediaTek Dimensity 800U SoC, 90Hz screen, and a 5,000mAh battery with 30W fast charging support.

As for the price, the Motorola Edge 20 Fusion will set you back to Rs 21,499, whereas the Edge 20 costs Rs 29,999.

Samsung Galaxy A12

Apart from Samsung Galaxy Flip3, Fold3, M32 5G, and A03s, Samsung also announced a new Galaxy A12 in India in August. The handset is a slightly tweaked version of the same phone that was launched earlier this year in the country. The new model is powered by the in-house Exynos 850 chipset instead of a MediaTek SoC. The rest of the Samsung Galaxy A12 specifications remain unchanged. It still sports a 6.5-inch display, a 5000mAh battery with 15W fast-charging and a 48MP primary camera on the back. Software-wise, the phone boots Android 11 OS out of the box.

Nokia C20 Plus

Nokia C20 Plus is a budget offering, with Android 11 (Go edition) software running out of the box. The smartphone is retailing in India at Rs 8,999 for the base 2GB RAM variant. The phone comes in Blue and Grey colour options and packs a 6.5-inch HD+ display, Unisoc SC9863A SoC, 8MP + 2MP rear-facing cameras, 5MP selfie camera, and a large 4,950mAh battery. Connectivity features include 4G LTE, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.2, GPS, and a micro-USB port. The phone measures 165.4 x 75.85 x9.5mm and weighs 204.7 grams. Vivo Y53s

Launched in India in August, the new Y-series offering from Vivo rocks MediaTek Helio G80 SoC under the hood. The handset features a 6.58-inch FHD display with a Halo notch for the selfie camera atop. The smartphone is driven by a 5,000mAh battery, which is backed by an 18W fast charging solution. In optics, the Vivo Y53s packs triple rear cameras, which consists of a 64MP primary sensor and a couple of 2MP units. It has a 16MP selfie snapper on the front for selfies and video chats and a side-mounted fingerprint sensor for security. The phone is powered by a MediaTek Helio G80 chipset.

The Vivo Y53s price in India is Rs 19,490 for the single 8GB RAM and 128GB storage version.

Tecno Pova 2

The biggest USP of this August launched smartphone has to be its battery. The Tecno Pova 2 houses a whopping 7,000mAh battery that is rated to last at least a day and then some with a single charge. The handset supports 18W fast charging support and packs a large 6.9-inch FHD+ Dot-in display with a centre-position punch-hole camera. Other Tecno Pova 2 specifications include MediaTek Helio G85 SoC, Android 11 OS, 48MP quad cameras, an 8MP selfie camera, and a side-mounted fingerprint scanner. In terms of connectivity, the Tecno Pova 2 features 4G LTE, dual-band Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 5.1, GPS and USB Type-C port for charging and data sync.

Vivo Y21

Last but not the least, Vivo Y21. The handset was launched in India on August 20th. It’s a mid-range offering from the brand that takes on the likes of Realme 8 5G, Redmi Note 10T, and Samsung Galaxy M32. The Vivo Y21 specifications are headlined by a 6.51-inch HD+ display, MediaTek Helio P35 SoC, up to 128GB storage, Android 11 OS with Funtouch 11.1 custom skin and a 13MP primary camera on the back. The phone is selling in India starting at Rs 13,990.
