Why is Twitter getting banned in India?

Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp have not been banned yet, but there is a possibility that the Indian government could go that way if these platforms don’t comply with the new rules. As per the rules, social media platforms have to follow additional due diligence, including appointing a chief compliance officer, nodal contact person, and a resident grievance officer. If Twitter, Facebook, and others don’t comply with the rules, they could lose their intermediary status, which allows them to be exempted from liabilities for any third-party information and data posted on their platform.

Koo, which is a Twitter-like Indian social media app, is the only company that has complied with the new rules. It won’t be surprising if the app sees an uptick in users during this period.
