Highlights
  • Realme entered the smart TV market in India in May last year and has seen tremendous growth
  • The company saw a 240 percent increase in shipments between Q2 and Q3 2020
  • Realme’s market share doubled from 3.2 percent in Q2 to 7.5 percent in Q3 of 2020 in the overall smart TV category

Realme is a relatively player new in the smart TV segment of India but it has already seen plenty of success in the market. The smartphone maker forayed into the smart TV market in May last year. There were several other new players as well, but Realme has taken out the competition to become the fastest-growing smart TV brand in India as per a new report by market research firm IDC. Xiaomi, currently the biggest rival for Realme, has been in the market for several years now and was also the first brand to launch affordable smart TVs in the country. However, Realme also entered the Indian market with a new SLED display technology to spice up the competition and provide better features than Xiaomi and others. If Realme continues on this growth path, then we may have a new affordable smart TV champion.

Realme becomes fastest-growing smart TV brand

According to the report by IDC, Realme doubled its market share in Q3 2020 and has become the fastest-growing TV brand in India. The brand saw a 240 percent growth in shipment between Q2 and Q3 2020. In the second quarter of 2020, Realme had a market share of 3.2 percent in the smart TV category. This doubled to 7.5 percent in Q3 2020 and helped Realme attain the fastest-growing TV brand title.

The smartphone manufacturer has been undercutting Xiaomi and selling smart TVs at cheaper prices. Realme’s current smart TV portfolio starts with a 32-inch model that is cheaper than the equivalent Mi TV. The company is also selling its TVs at more affordable prices when compared to other TV brands. It offers plenty of features, a full-fledged Android TV experience, and good build quality with premium design. Realme also sells its SLED smart TV with 4K resolution that offers TUV Rheinland Low Blue Light certification, ultra-wide colour gamut, and more.

Madhav Sheth, Vice President, Realme and Chief Executive Officer, Realme India and Europe, said “Realme has been able to cater to the growing change in momentum towards this category and has provided its customers a tech-lifestyle option with its smart TVs, with best in class technology features and design at its price segment.”

The company doesn’t have as many smart TV options as some of the other brands, including Xiaomi, but that is bound to change soon. As of now, Xiaomi faces very stiff competition from Realme and will continue to in the coming years, just like in the smartphone market. Of course, this only means that we consumers will get better hardware at more affordable prices.
